At THE COUNTRY BEEHOUSE LLC, we strive to improve our breeding program by providing OFA certifications for all our breeding dogs. Our breeding dogs are seen by a reproductive veterinarian who helps guide us in all improvements and suggestions for our program while providing veterinary care for all our dogs.
The OFA offers recommendations for every breed regarding testing. Therefore, we test for eyes, patella luxation, and heart. The results are then reviewed with our reproductive veterinarian to help improve our breeding stock and program.
While various OFA clinics are held throughout the year, coordinating them with our breeding schedule can be challenging. For instance, our females cannot leave the home three weeks pre-whelping to three weeks post-whelping due to the risk of infection, parasites, etc. This means that some pups may not receive formal OFA certifications. However, they are continually checked by a reproductive veterinarian for conditions like Patella Luxation and heart murmurs.
In certain conditions, such as low-grade Patella luxation, breeding with another OFA-cleared dog minimizes the chance of passing to offspring. These issues are discussed with our reproductive veterinarian
Types of Tests:
OFA Eye Certification examinations are screening exams performed by board-certified veterinary ophthalmologists
OFA Certifications are performed by board certified Veterinarian
